Andy Warhol

The research of Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987) focuses on the reproducibility of the image:
a kind of game with images, in which they lose their real visual meaning during the printing process.

At the same time, these personal reworkings become pop icons and the ultimate products of mass culture.

Did you say Flowers?

The flowers in these works are inspired by hibiscus flowers, Warhol’s starting point for these large, brightly coloured canvases, which can reach as much as 2 m x 2 m.

The “Flowers” series was first shown in 1964 at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York, to great success. These are the last works Warhol made with traditional brushes and paint on canvas.

Afterwards, Warhol abandoned traditional painting for good to devote himself to photographic manipulation and printing techniques.

The first silkscreen ever printed in the studio that Andy Warhol, an eclectic artist of Ukrainian origin and naturalised American, opened in New York in 1967 is the iconic face of Marilyn Monroe.
